Potluck...

...so last night I went to a Potluck with some friends. It was a great night and the food was delish! We often get together for a potluck and it raised a few questions in my mind. One being why on earth is it called a Potluck. I don't feel that i'm lucky to have something come in a pot. Afterall, that is the point. Here's the wikipedia definition:
"The word pot-luck appears in 16th century England, in the work of Thomas Nashe, and was there used to mean "food provided for an unexpected or uninvited guest, the luck of the pot". The sense "communal meal, where guests bring their own food", appears to have originated in the late 19th century or early 20th century US, particularly in the Western United States, either by influence from potlatch or possibly by extension of traditional sense of "luck of the pot".

Potluck - To the Irish, a potluck was a meal with no particular menu. Everyone participating brought a dish for all to share. The term comes from a time when groups of Irish women would gather together and cook dinner. They only had one pot so they cooked the meal together with whatever ingredients they happened to have that day."

Apparently it does mean that i'm lucky to have received whatever is in the pot. Hum...who knew?

Anyways, now let's move on to another questions....what is potluck etiquette? Does everyone bring a meal item and dessert? Do some bring meals and some bring dessert? Is a fruit tray an appropriate item to bring? Can you bring something that you know most people will not like? Do you make a double batch...like if you were bringing chicken wings, is 12 appropriate for a group of 20 or more...or should you stick to items that are more easily spread out amongst large groups like lasagna, casseroles, etc..? Do everyone share the leftovers? Do you just bring back what your brought? Should you take the hint if nearly no one helped themselves to whatever you brought? Is it fair that the same people always bring the pricier items like meat dishes?

I searched this topic and found many sites offering advice. Here's some advice (http://www.drdaveanddee.com/potluck.html):

Pot Luck Etiquette Advice

1. The host generally provides one of the main dishes, plates, silverware, napkins, and glasses.

2. If you are a guest, ask the host what to bring. The host may have food categories divided among the guests such as bread, salad, appetizer, main dish, side dish, dessert, and beverage.

3. Arrive on time. Do not inconvenience the other guests by making them wait for you and your dish to arrive.

4. Bring the appropriate serving utensil for your dish. The host may not have the utensil or have enough serving utensils for everyone's dish.

5. Unless you have an unusual serving dish and utensil, it is best to tape your name to both for easy identification. Have your name attached is helpful if you forget to take your dish home.

6. The dish should be ready to serve and kept at the appropriate temperature until placed on the table. If bringing hot food, keep it hot until it is placed on the table and bring a hot plate to protect the table surface. If bringing cold food, keep it cold until ready to serve.

7. When at the buffet line, only take a small portion of each item to taste. Part of the fun of a potluck is to sample everyone's dish.

8. Help the host with clean up. If everyone helps with clean up, it will get done in a fraction of the time with little effort on everyone's part.

9. If your dish has leftovers, then take them home unless you would like to offer it to the host. Do not take someone else's leftovers.

10. Show appreciation. Let everyone know how much you enjoyed their dish and thank them.

Most sites had the same advice....never thought about bringing a serving utensil...good idea! I still have some unanswered questions though....any of you have suggestions? If so email me lisenewell@hotmail.com and I will gather and post a new list for all...I will keep your identity confidential so no worries peeps :)

Fire...

...so there was a house fire in Arcadia last night and thankfully no one was injured. I think the family was gone when it happened. Either way, it's always sad when you hear someone lost all of their possessions. My heart goes out to them...and during the holidays...so sad. (http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/9019204.html)

Ldot Casserole....

...so I made this yummy casserole yesterday and will share with all of you. It's the recipe on the carton of white 18 pack of eggs. I modified it a bit :)

6 Eggs
2 Cups Milk
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Dry Mustard
6 slices of bread cubed
1 cup Grated Cheese
1 Pkg of Bacon

Cook up bacon, drain the fat and chop into small bits.
Whip Eggs, Milk, Salt, Dry Mustard and I like to add a dash of pepper.
Cover the bottom of the dish with a bit of the egg mixture and then put your cubed bread on top. Place Bacon crumbs on top of that then cover with the grated Cheese. Pour remaining egg mixture over the top. You can keep it in the frigde till it's time to bake and you can even let it sit overnight. Bake at 350 for about 40 mins....basically till it's golden brown.....then dig in! It's very yummy! The original recipe calls for sausage so you could do that if you prefer.

Polygamy...

...so there's a trial in BC that starts today to argue whether polygamy is legal or illegal. The argument that it should be legal is based on the reasoning that's it's a religious belief and therefore should be allowed. For those who don't know what Polygamy is, the wikipedia definitions is:

"Polygamy is a form of marriage in which a person has more than one spouse at the same time, as opposed to monogamy in which a person has only one spouse at a time. When a man has more than one wife, the relationship is called polygyny; and when a woman has more than one husband, it is called polyandry. If a marriage includes multiple husbands and wives, it can be called group marriage."

You RARELY hear of a woman having more than one husband and I can take a guess as to why THAT would be! LOL! More than one man bugging, poking, making a mess, etc would drive me bananas!! I can, however, understand why a man would want multiple wives. All that cooking, cleaning, adoration and loving...I'm certain no man would turn that down. The problem I see with it is that it would be difficult to sort out the tax situation. Who claims who? How do you figure out Child Tax Benefits for each family? It would get quite complicated. Another thing is that if this passes as legal with the reasoning that it's a religious belief then where does it stop? You could have people starting religions for all kinds of reasons...does it set too much of a precedent?

Harry...

...so I saw an advanced screening of the new Harry Potter movie. It was much better than the last one, but still leaves you in suspense for the second part. I didn't realize there were two parts to this finale till the movie was over but I suppose had I paid more attention the title I would have figured it out....."Deathly Hallows, Part 1"....kinda obvious there's a part 2, eh? Oops!

I suppose you've heard about all the new regulations and screenings required before getting on any flight from now on. They basically grope and frisk you and many are outraged by this. I'm not so upset...i'd rather be safe! Today's cartoon in the Chronicle Herald made reference to Harry Potter and the new flight requirements...made me chuckle :)

Rambling...

...so first of all, I GOT TICKETS FOR HEART!!! YAY!!!!!!! I'm beyond thrilled....in case that wasn't already evident :P

I volunteered during Nova Scotia Music Week and it was amazing. Loads of fantastic performances. Check out "Turn Time Off" - David Myles. It's an excellent song and has some great lyrics. Christina Martin, Jenn Grant, Steve MacDougall (from the Band Slowcoaster), Andrew Hunter & The Gatherers (Feel Good Song is their hit and I think I wrote about it last year...still one of my favs!), Alert the Medic, In-Flight Safety, Carmen Townsend, Carleton Stone Drives the Big Wheel, The Stanfields...all amazing artists! I can't say enough about the talent that was in Ydot this weekend.

I can't write to you without talking about the flooding. It's totally crazy! I have family members that have been evacuated from their homes and I'm sure some of you have similar stories. What's sad is that it's not over yet...let's hope it all ends sooner rather than later and that no one gets hurt. I don't think many folks outside of our area know what's going on down here. I noticed on the Chronicle Herald online this morning there was a very small article regarding whats been going on down here and a small pic of a tree surrounded by water. Now I checked and they have a huge article with many pictures of a bridge in Halifax that it closed in case it collapses. Take a look at YARMOUTH....people have no homes....people can't reach their homes due to the roads being washed out...animals are in danger....the power plant in Tusket is at risk which would knock out power to thousands of people....it's a STATE OF EMERGENCY and the Premier can't come assess the damage till Wednesday due to rainy weather. I'm not kidding...that's what he said. Kinda reminds me of President Bush flying over the destruction in New Orleans after Katrina and continuing on to Washington without even stopping to help. Maybe I'm being a little too critical, but I just feel like if this type of flooding was happening in Halifax, he'd be right there and all the news outlets would be broadcasting it on overdrive. Anyways, just my thought today...I just feel like this flooding is a big deal. It's sad.

Keeping Informed...

...so today I was brushing up on my Senior Pharmacare Program knowledge...don't ask....anyways, I came across the following:

What drugs and supplies are not offered under the Pharmacare Programs?

Exclusions under the Pharmacare Programs include but are not limited to:

-prescriptions filled outside Nova Scotia;
-proprietary medicines and household remedies;
-natural health products;
-nonprescription analgesics, vitamins, mouth preparations, throat preparations,nasal preparations, laxatives, antacids and cough and cold preparations;
-artificial sweetening agents;
-dietary supplements and food products;
-soaps, cleansers and shampoos, medicated or otherwise;
-supportive or physical aids/devices, mechanical or otherwise;
-prescription accessories, convalescent aids or other non-drug items of a similar nature;
-cosmetic, health and beauty aids;
-blood derivatives (Immune Serum Globulin for prophylaxis against infectious hepatitis or measles for treatment of immune deficiency disease is available from Public Health);
-vaccines and sera (most are available from Public Health);
-smoking cessation therapies;
-anti-obesity therapies;
-erectile dysfunction therapies;
-infertility therapies;
-antihistamines;
-therapies for environmental illness; and
drug products identified by trade names deemed to be inappropriate, confusing and/or misleading.

Did I seriously just read that the Seniors Pharmacare doesn't cover "Infertility Therapies"?!! Well that's good to know and I hope that didn't disapoint any seniors. I'm not right sure it would be a good plan to have a baby that late in life, although it does happen...just find it kinda odd to be itemized!

Songs...

...so lately I've been hearing some songs I really like so I thought I'd share!

Perfect Cup...

...so this morning I stopped at Subway to get some breakfast and a coffee only to discover the world's best disposable cup system!!! It's so exciting that I've shown everyone I can. The lid has a little slider that opens or closes the drink slot....this ensure you don't spill it all over your car, have to mess with those dumb tabs to open it and allows you to be able to shut it if you want to put it aside for a few minutes. It's the most amazing disposable coffee lid known to man. I've looked for a pic online but can't find one. It's made by Dixie and is the absolute best thing ever! All you coffee drinkers will appreciate this invention as much as I am right now....so stop in to Subway, get a coffee and let me know what you think!

My child is soooo funny...

...so my oldest little one cracks me up sometimes! The other day we were on our way home from school and he pipes up "mom, is Lucas gone home too?" I answered back kinda puzzled "Lucas who?"....to that he answers "MOM!!!! I DIDN'T SAY KNOCK KNOCK!!! GEEESHHHHH!" hahahahahahahaha....well I honestly couldn't speak for a few minutes which made him even more mad at me! "I wasn't even joking with you mommy...it's not funny!"

Disgusting...

...so there's someone videotaping women at the Dalhousie University Campus. Apparently the police are looking into a series of videos that were posted on youtube showing women that were not aware they were being filmed. This is very creepy and I think very serious. I hope they catch this person before he/she decides to get a little bolder. Please be careful and try not to walk anywhere alone...just in case....(http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/9018444.html)

Seriously??...

...so I read today that Ydot's Town Council has been hard at work on important issues in the community...banning drive-thru's in the downtown area with the exception of Dairy Queen which will be grandfathered. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? SERIOUSLY?? They wasted time talking about banning drive-thru's...there's one in the downtown area and it's been there for thousands of years (slight exaggeration, but you get my point)....and businesses have a hard enough time even staying open and we're worried about more drive-thru's?! Plllllease! There's a water problem going on right now, the town has had many issues with the signage bi-laws, we have no ferry still, the construction on the road by the mall is taking forever and we're talking about drive-thru's!! It's an area that could really use some more businesses so before we start talking about what can and can't be there maybe we should help the businesses already there stay afloat. I dunno...maybe it's me...I understand drive-thru's are bad for the environment but so is wasting air, ink and paper on discussing and writing up by-laws for something that is totally not an issue at present time. Drive-thru's...really though? We're concerned about that....ok...glad to know they make good use of their time at those council meetings.

Acadie Shore....

...so someone sent me this clip from "22 Minutes" regarding a new show called "Acadie Shore".....hahahhahahaha....enjoy!

Speeder...

...so somebody is $2400 poorer this weekend! A young man from Ydot was caught speeding on the Brooklyn Road and was given the biggest fine ever given for speeding. He was going 115 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. (http://thechronicleherald.ca/NovaScotia/1206702.html)

I will just note, that this is exactly the same location I was caught speeding a while back. I wasn't going that fast, but I was still speeding. It's an area where there is an overpass so when you're driving along, you feel like you should be driving faster than the rural speeds.....it kinda feels like you're on the highway. I'm not excusing this man for going that fast cause let's face it, it was rather overboard but I can see how someone would drive faster than 60 km/h. My fine was nearly $300 and I was complaining...can't imagine $2400, losing your licence for a while and having it plastered all over the news. I doubt this guy will speed again! Just glad no one was hurt.

...so today is a day i'll never forget. 13 years ago a dear friend of mine was killed in a car accident. "Raj"...

...so last week I went to Hdot for meetings and the night before we had a social function at the Lower Deck. Miss Hair and myself got a table near the band and were singing away minding our own business. I went to the washroom and when I returned I found Miss Hair talking to a older version of "Raj" from the "Big Bang Theory". I was laughing before I even reached the table and she's trying to keep a straight face. Here's a description of what I saw....he was definitely waiting for a flood in those pants! They were hiked up part way up his torso, accented with a very large belt buckle. Tucked in these hideous pants was a navy, velvet....yes I said velvet...collard shirt....and here's the kicker....there were pictured of horses jumping fences all the way around his gut like a cheesy 70's border!! HAHAHAHAHA....i was nooooo good. ANyways, he tried to tell me he was a Flight Engineer and he travelled all over the place. I took that to mean he was a flight attendant cause the last time I checked, you can't fix the outside of a plane while it's in the air so chances are he embellished a little. This gave me the idea to do the same so Miss Hair and I became Doctors! Why not? He went on and on about how his nephew needed a knee surgery but had to go to the states so I proceeded to explain how simple this type of procedure is...I just whipped out my Grey's Anatomy knowledge and I was on fire! "It's a vertical incision, on the left of the knee.." Blah Blah Blah... hahahaha...it was one of those "had to be there" moments.

Wheeling...

...so I went wheeling with a gang of girls yesterday. I borrowed my dad's wheeler and he wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any problems so he wrote out instructions on how to use it. "Step 1: Get on wheeler facing forward. Step 2: put right foot on brake and turn key to ON" ...and so on. It was hilarious cause apparently he thinks that I lack common sense. Of course the first pick of the day is me, sitting backwards on the wheeling with my arms up in the air wondering how to start it! I was thankful that he did do that for me though...I did feel better knowing I had a idiot proof guide on how to operate this machine!

The day went on without any problems at all. We even stopped for a coffee break along the route cause my passenger had brought a little burner, water, coffee, cups and milk. It was a gorgeous day - crisp fall day and the trail was awesome and smooth. We ate lunch at PD in Meteghan then continued all the way to Weymouth and back.

There's no good segway here...

...so i don't mean to laugh but I have to...the guy who created the Segway's died from riding his Segway off a cliff. Oh my, comedians are going to have a field day with this one! Seriously, he died by using his own product...I'm sorry but I can't help but chuckle. I wonder what he was thinking on the way down..."Oh crap, this isn't gonna look good in the paper tomorrow!"

Evolution of Music...

...so on Friday I was driving and listening to the good time oldies and it got me thinking about names in music. By that I mean, songs that name a person. It's kinda funny to think about how names have evolved over time...

Back in the day there were songs about Mary-Lou, Susie Q and Peggy Sue....then we went to Brandy (she's the fine girl :P), Cecilia, Sarah, Rosanna and who can forget me and Julio.....then we moved out of the first names and went to Piano Man, Rocket Man, there was once a Tambourine Man, but he was a little older.....and now we're singing about Baby, Shawty or Shorty, Miss Independent and Alejandro.

What next?

We've also sang about many places....San Fransisco, California, New York, Africa, Cocomo....can you think of more?

Forget?...

...so I'm wondering if we forgot about the ridiculous gas prices? It seems like we've just grown accustomed to how high they are these days and don't even bother discussing them when they increase anymore. This morning I paid 107.1...kinda crazy eh? It cost me around $65 to fill my buggy and I find that a tad high. I know people are starting to buy Hybrid Vehicles so that they don't have to deal with high gas prices, but they're quite pricey themselves! Not only that, they don't have very much truck space as there's a huge battery that needs to be there in order for the car to run. It's not always as economical, space wise, and once you pay the premium for the car, I'm not sure you save that much. I wonder what the break even point is? hum.... We used to buy Diesel vehicles cause Diesel was much cheaper than gas. You also paid more for those vehicles. Now that's not even a good idea cause at times Diesel is more expensive! Kinda crazy, eh? I think a good "green" vehicle would be a wind/solar powered car....it should run real nicely in this neck of the woods!

Dealdliest Catch....

...so I told you we went to see three guys from the hit show "The Deadliest Catch" this week. It was a speaking thing and they were supposed to chat about fishing and their experiences. There were two hosts for the night, a man and a woman who work for a local radio station. They were also taking questions from the audience. I gotta say, I wasn't overly impressed. It was alright and they did have some funny moments but overall I wouldn't go running back to see them. They are just fisherman....nothing fancier than that....and they have the same stories like the many fisherman from around here. They also didn't realize that the Bay of Fundy has the biggest tides in the world....hummm.....I found that odd.

I guess what started the bad taste in my mouth was at the beginning of the show. A man stands up and clearly has a disability. His speech was a little slow and he had obvious physical disabilities. He had one of the Captain's books and said he had read it twice and wanted them to sign it. One of the Captain's then responds back to him mimicking his speech. I didn't find that funny at all....this guy paid money for the book and money to go see these men....and this money pays for their lifestyles....there was no need to mock him....it was RUDE. I assume they were a little looser with their lips due to the fact they were all drunk when they got on stage. Seriously?? You couldn't have waited till after?? We paid $117 to go see three drunk Captain's who also felt the need to ask the female host on stage to show them her "tits". Common! That was rude too. I'm not easily offended and can take lots of sexual and vulgar comments, but I just felt they were so drunk that they took it a little too far. That same lady went and got a question from the audience, of course she was female, and as soon as she stood up the Captain's were asking her to show them her tits too. Geesh guys....could you please come back to reality, we're not on Jerry Springer! Woman are more than that.

One lady stood up and mentioned that there were 4 fisherman missing off of Digby and they sounded generally interested for a minute and were nice....but then back to vulgar and drunk men talk. I don't know....I did laugh but they just weren't anything special.

I ended up meeting one of them later on in the evening at a bar. I was introduced and we shook hands, but then me and a friend just left. I didn't want him to think we felt like he was a celeb. He really isn't. He's a fisherman just like many around here. The difference is that I think most men from here wouldn't have acted that way - most are gentlemen.

Me!...

...so a colleague of mine sent me my horoscope. I'm not usually into that kind of stuff but this one was pretty darn good. Tell me what you think!

SCORPIO - The Addict (October 23 to November 21)
EXTREMELY adorable. Loves to joke. Very good sense of humour. Will try almost anything once. Loves to be pampered. Energetic. Predictable. GREAT kisser. Always get what they want. Attractive. Loves being in long relationships. Talkative. Loves to party but at times to the extreme. Loves the smell and feel of money and is good at making it but just as good at spending it! Very protective over loved ones. HARD workers. Can be a good friend but if is disrespected by a friend, the friendship will end. Romantic. Caring.

Ridiculous...

...so on the front page of the Chronicle Herald today is an article about a guy who just got 16 years for attempting to murder a man involved in the drug and crime gangs in Halifax. These guys have been in the news for years and it's getting to be very dangerous. I didn't realize how dangerous and serious these people were until I read the details of this case in this article: http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/1200930.html

I'm glad the police are on to the associates and are wire taping them, but it's still very scary to think that people in our neck of the woods think and could plot something so horrible. I realize the guy he was shooting at is just as violent and dangerous, but someone innocent is going to get hurt because of these feuds. That scares me....and to think this took place outside a daycare....very scary....

Earl...

...so apparently we have a storm coming our way this weekend. (http://www.thevanguard.ca/News/2010-08-31/article-1712418/Hurricane-Earl-on-the-way/1) Hurricane Earl is headed our way and it might be a doozy! Tie down your things and unplug whatever you don't need, just in case.

Here's some ideas of what you should have on hand during the storm:

*Cell Phone and a land line that's not cordless. (Cordless phones don't work if the power goes out cause they plug in)
*Food - quick and easy things.
*Coleman Stove. I have a butane burner thingy...works the best of kind! Last power outage I cooked Kraft Dinner for the whole family!
*Flashlights and lots of batteries
*Radio...either one of those crank ones or a battery powered one.
*Battery Powered Fans...it gets hot sometimes during the storm.
*water....fill the tub so you can flush the toilet as well as have drinking water available.
*Lots of Friends that live in different places cause once the power is restored in one area, you can all pile in over there till yours comes back on!! hehehe...this is the most important one, in my books!!

I hope it veers off course...still have a few days of wishful thinking :)

Guess Who?...

...so the oldest little one was allowed to buy a toy on Saturday for a treat. He picked the game "Guess Who?"! He's only 3 so I didn't know if he'd be any good at it cause there's a lot to do. He picks a card and I pick a card with a person's face on it. We each have pictures of all the faces and by asking yes or no questions, we eliminate people till we only have one left. The first one to guess the others card wins. You usually start with a question to identify the gender so "is your person a boy?" If he says yes, I put down all the girl faces. You then ask other identification questions like "does your person have blue eyes? moustache? Earrings? White Hair? Glasses? Hat on? etc... Blake would ask questions like "does your person have ears? Does your person have a chin? Does your person have a nose?" hehehehehe...he wasn't quite getting it, eh? Anyways, after a few games he got the hang of it and last night we played again. Don't you think he beat me? I couldn't believe it....asked the questions, put down the right faces and was left with mine! I'm still in shock. I guess he's smarter than I was giving him credit :P

Did you see it?...

...so last night was the Primetime Emmy's and Jimmy Fallon was the host. He was quite funny and I think the funniest part was his musical skit to say goodbye to the 3 shows that ended this year....take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL0pKOPTB8g

...so I saw a new Commercial this weekend and it makes me stop everytime it's on. It's the new Kraft Cheese one....you know, the one with the dude with the thick french accent....what's up with that? It's kinda odd. I guess it's working cause i've noticed it everytime it's on and have been eating cheese like there's no tomorrow :P

While i'm on commercials, there's another one that I really like. It's super catchy....take a guess..................i'll give you a hint "give me YOP me mamma..." hahahaha! It's the Yop Commercial...love it!

...so do you know the name of the GEneral Manager of Waste Check? If you don't know what Waste Check is, it's the company that takes all your recyclables and recycles them! Anyways, his name is Gus Green. hahaha....Green....Recycling....hahahaha...anyone else find that as funny as I do?

"Say my name, Say my name..." - Destiny's Child

Case...

...so remember 4 years ago there was this teacher named Paula Gallant from Halifax who was found murdered in the trunk of her car shortly after Christmas? She had been out shopping that day and her family reported her missing when she didn't come home. Her car was found in the parking lot of the school where she taught. Today, it has been released that her husband has been charged with Murder. Here's the article: http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/1197372.html

Unreal...and to think he's been around his daughter all these years after murdering her mother. Awful, just awful. The daughter was just shy of 1 when Paula was murdered. I think the Grandparents had stepped in to help care for the child, but it's still kinda eerie. Glad the family finally gets some closure.

Construction....

....so it's road construction time and I hate it! Someone told me we had 4 seasons....Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter and Construction....voila the fourth season has arrived! I'm super impatient and am always in a rush these days so waiting for the darn sign to flip to SLOW just about puts me over the edge. I have one question for the road people....why does it take 5 "supervisors" to watch one truck dig out ditches?? Seems to me the job would get done quicker if 4 of those "supervisors" put down their coffees and did something else.

Vote!...

...so Alexa is a young girl who lives just down the road from my mom and dad. She's a fantastic singer and I've been helping her get her voice heard this summer. She entered a contest online through Winners. If you go on facebook, search Winners and then go to WOWCANADA and search Alexa d'Entremont you can vote for her! You can vote once per day so it's important you keep it up. She was the leader in votes the last time I checked and voting ends August 16th. The top 10 move on to another 2 weeks of voting and the top 3 move on to a showdown with Universal Music Execs as the judges. She'll also get to meet Nikki Yanofski, the girl would sang the Olympic theme! It would be nice to see a local girl make it big so let's support her!

If you want to hear her live, you can come to the Red Cap Restaurant on August 25th from 6-8....we'll be there singing for your to enjoy.

and it's over...

...so the Wedding Week is over :( We had a great time and got to meet loads of nice people. The groom's family knows how to party and did a good job keeping up with my family!

The Wedding Rehearsal was interesting. First of all, the priest walked in and came over to me and told me I was singing too loud...surprise surprise! I told him that it wouldn't be loud on the wedding day and i'd make sure of it...all the while crossing my toes and fingers cause really I was gonna do what I wanted to do. I know that may sound rude but I have a funny feeling the flutter of Hummingbird wings would be too loud for him so really i'll use my own judgement. After that the rehearsal got underway and not 5 minutes into I notice my oldest son start gagging. Well the bride has a vomit phobia so it didn't take me long ro run over, grab him and carrying him to the bathroom just on time....buh bye supper. It was pitiful, but my mom took him home and he went right to bed. I think it was a combo of too much running, coughing and being overtired. He was fine the next day. During the practice of the vows the priest needed two alter servers so he chose the groom's cousins who were in the wedding party. I wish I had a pic of them trying to keep it together while the priest was doing his thing. These two guys are funny and have a hard time acting serious on a good day let alone try to hold things for the priest and mean it. Even the priest was laughing cause it was a scene right out of a movie....picure Jack Black and Will Ferrel as alter servers....same thing hehehehe:)

After that we headed to Rudder's for the supper and then for a little after party and the Bride and Groom's house. This is where I experienced the "Fruit Salad". Apparently the Groom and the Groomsmen made this salad 2 days prior using nothing but vodka for the juice. It was definitely tasty, especially the watermellon piece....yikes!

The following day we headed to Quinan for some camp life. It was a fantastic day! The alter servers were dressed in matching bathing suits and did quite a few belly flops and funny looking dives for our entertainment. Most of us ladies got some good tans for the wedding so it was nice to just chill out before all the festivities began.

The Wedding day was the best day of all. The Bride had rented a little bus for the entire wedding party to travel in and it was a wonderful idea. We had lots of champagne to go around and found ourselves standing and dancing more than sitting. We took hundreds of pics and I can't wait to see them all. I'll post a few when we get them back cause the photographer was amazing. We closed out the party at 2 am and it was definitely the best party of the summer!

Pit stop....

...so I went to Hdot yesterday for a quick work trip. En route, I notice this guy up ahead standing on the white line. As I got closer I realized this guy had no shirt on and had one hand up like he was riding a bull...the other was on his uh-hum.....and he was peeing on the white line TOWARDS TRAFFIC!!! What the??!! There were people in the car next to him so either he was still really drunk (it was 9 am) or it was a dare. Either way I couldn't help but chuckle...

Music Camp...

...so I've been away at Music Camp. I was an instructor/vocal coach. It was a lot of fun. For those who don't know what it is, it's a camp for kids ages 10-15. There is a try-out process and then those kids who make it come to camp for 1 week and practice in their area of interest (guitar, drums, vocals, etc...) and in the afternoons they're divi-ed up in bands and made to learn 3 songs. Each band performs those 3 songs at the final concert at the end of the week. My band did "Perfect" - Hedley, "Waka Waka, this time for Africa" - Shakira and "Mon Vieux Capitaine" - Phillip et Wendell (Local Artists). They won for best song for their version of "Waka Waka"...it was awesome. The kids were really well behaved and it's quite rewarding to watch them perform at the end of the week....they work so hard....it's amazing really.

The Music Camp Leaders were asked to open for Lennie Gallant at the Acadian Festival Closing Ceremonies on July 24th. We're mega excited!! They will be held in Wedgeport and we go on at 8:40 PM I think. We were debating on a band name and came up with a great one....we are:

Cars...

...so Friday I brought the buggy in for an Oil Change and Brake Maintenance. I was actually just going for the Oil Change, but then was told it was Brake Maintenance time so I went ahead with that too. When I brought in the buggy at 9:15 AM, buddy asked if I was flexible on time. I said yes, so much....thinking noonish was long enough. BAD IDEA! I called around 12:30 asking for my buggy and they told me they were running behind and that it would be till at least 2PM! Well, I was a little irked...apparently all the other non flexible people got their vehicles done first and now I was left to wait all fricken day. Never again...and make that note too!

Now, it brings me to that brake stuff. Buddy tells me that my brake pads are almost gone and I'll need new ones within a week....it was real bad apparently. He phoned me today with a price of $300.00 installed. That's fine, I guess, but I asked about the Brake Maintenance I did on Friday. Why did they clean my brakes if they knew I'd need new ones pronto and have to go through all that again....wasn't that a total waste, not to mention a total waste of my $60+????? He didn't quite know what to say and he then admitted I was right and that he'd make sure they'd give me a deal like a free oil change or refund the $60+ from Friday. Friggen right they will! That's quite the rip off! Why can't they be truthful and have common sense? That's what gets you the repeat business....not this stealing the customers money stuff....absolutely unacceptable.

Oh child of mine...

...so the oldest little one is real attentive now and repeats everything he hears. Hubby had a music station on this morning for a while before swtiching it to the cartoons. A little while later, the oldest little one starting singing:

"And if you want me girl I will be your man
And if you want me girl I will be here forever"

Hahahahaha...it's the song "Your Man" by Down with Webster

What I know...

...so Hubby has a bathroom reader and every once and a while I pull it out to read all the fun facts. I now know that:

*Ketchup can totally clean copper
*There are 206 bones in our bodies - most of which are in our fingers and toes
*The little hairs on a roaches legs can detect a breeze from miles and miles away in order to avoid their prey
*Red Eye is caused by the blood vessels behind the eyes that reflect during the flash so in order to avoid use real bright lights to dilate the pupils first
*You grow faster in space then on earth
*If you never cut your finger nails they'd be 13 ft long on your 80th bday
*you can use cola to clean your toilet and it will likely do a better job than the cleaning products.
*Gadsby by Ernest Vincent Wright is a Story of Over 50,000 Words
Without Using the Letter “E”
(Apparently his typewriter had a sticky E key so he wrote the whole book without using that letter)

Radio...

...so today I was listening to the radio. The next song started and the announcer is still talking and he got done just before the vocals started....does that annoy anyone else? I get right panicked that he'll misjudge his time and the song will start while he's mid sentence! I hold my breathe...kinda ridiculous, I know...but I can't help it. It's rather distracting too. Actually, that new Hyundai Ad is a bit much too. HEar it yet? Dude is so excited about the new deals that he doesn't want to even breathe so you can hear him nearly running out of air and struggling to finish his pitch....DRIVES ME CRAZY! I had a hard time breathing in the car all day!

NDP...

...so I hear Mr. Dexter decided to give $3Million of our money to build a Indoor Soccer Field in Halifax....hum? I'm not opposed to the field, but why not give $3Million to Yarmouth to make the ferry run? Seems to me more money would be brought to the people of Nova Scotia from the Ferry Service then there will be dividends from an Indoor Soccer Field.

I would like to see a ferry here, but I don't want to give people the impression that i'm all for the Cat. I'm actually not as it wasn't sustainable and that's not a great thing for our economy either. I think that a ferry is necessary though so why not give $3million towards a new service...a cheaper service....heck, a service! But an Indoor Soccer Field? Many places make do with the outdoor ones - I think the money could be better spent.

Oh my...

...so this morning I was looking for songs that I could do with my Music Camp kids and I looked up Justin Bieber. He's all the rave right now with the teens so I saw one with Sean Kingston called Eenie Meenie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prmmCg5bKxA)

Well I just about died laughing when I heard the first line...."She's indecisive....she can't decide..." hahaha...well no shit...you just said that...TWICE....gotta love rappers and they're way of saying the same thing over and over!

Birthday....

...so the littlest one is 1 year old today! I can remember this day like it was yesterday. I had a visit from one of my dear friends and I wasn't feeling the best (this was the day before). She left around lunchtime and I decided to take a nap while the oldest little one was napping. I tossed and turned for a long time and felt ubber nauseated. I yelled for Eric and told him I thought is was time to go in. I called my Farty Cousin and asked if she could babysit....she was some excited to hear why, even though I was ready to be ill! We went in and found out I was having mild contractions. The doc didn't like my bloodwork and later found out it was cause I had HELLP Syndrome. It's something my mother had when she gave birth to my bro and I and it's fairly rare. It's also serious as the only way to stop the problem is to give birth. In may case, not as big of a deal as I was gonna have a C-Section anyways so that could be done at any time. They held off for the night and gave me some drugs to try and sleep off the contractions. They weren't bad at all, just made me a little uncomfortable. Well, that med was quite the stuff. I woke up and looked at my hands and they were floating. It was like I was on a Magic Carpet Ride...hehehe...didn't like the feeling and definitely wasn't going to try to get up cause I wouldn't have made it very far. I slept some more and when morning came they did more tests and decided that they shouldn't wait too much longer. The doc came in and let me know that I'd have a baby by suppertime. Well Hubby, my mom, Hubby's mom and others in my room were soooooo excited....I on the otherhand was bawling. The fear of having a section was a reality. The last one was a relief cause I was in so much pain that I couldn't wait to get it over with....not this time...I had mild cramps so I was going in fully aware of what was going on....and all I could think about was that needle for the Spinal.

It came time and my friend Nursemaid got me ready to go. The Cook was a student there so I asked to have her come with me and the doc said it was no problem. I was glad she was there...she was a good support. Nursemaid wheeled me to the OR door and left me there so she could get the papers I needed to sign. I cried like my dog had just died. I was trembling and so scared. Once they reminded me that i'd have a baby real soon, I calmed down....and then about 30 mins or so later I heard the words "It's a BOY!". I cried some more and so did everyone in the room. He was beautiful and all seemed well.

I was back up in my room with my family and my new baby boy right around suppertime. I felt good and it was such a good day. I tear up when I think about it. At the time I didn't know that he'd be my last baby, but now that I do it's a little more emotional for me. I'm soooooo lucky to have two happy, healthy boys and despite all that happened after this time, I wouldn't change anything at all.

Happy Birthday Brady! xoxo

Vegas Vacation....

...so i'm back! I had a fantastic time...Vegas is a place like no other. It was real hot - 110 Degrees everyday....but a dip in the pool and a strawberry daquiri solved that problem. We did lots and there's still lots I didn't do. The highlights would be Zumanity - Cirque Du Soleil, the water show at the Bellagio, CSI Experience, The Mentalist (which is a magic show), HOover Dam, Freemont Street, Madame Tussauds and lounging at the pool.

Rules in Vegas don't apply. You can drink everywhere other than in a vehicle...even cup holders right next to the toilet! As you walk down the street people hand you catalogues and cards of women you can order for the night. Hubby was amaed at the difference in prices hehehe....some were $110 and others offered a $41 special...not sure what the special included but my guess was an STD.

The Hoover Dam was cool. It was just like what you seen in the movies, minus the cars blowing up and the mad car chases. We did the tour inside and saw that power plant Oompa Loompas working away. They looked so small but I guess it's cause we were way up high! Hard to believe that this structure was built 2 years ahead of schedule and under budget AND it was a government funded project....amazing that with all our technology today, we can't accomplish this :P

Went on a time share presentation....I wanted to the free stuff. The man was nice, but boy did he ever turn mean when I said no. He basically insulted me and Hubby then called over this big burley man who then further insulted us....he asked me "why are you going to pay for Paris Hilton's Rehab??" "That's just stupid...but do what you want".....then he chuckled as he walked away.....horrible way to do business if you asked me, but I didn't feel too badly....and we enjoyed the free stuff!

There were women dancing on the tables at the casinos....kinda weird, but especially weird when you see small children walking by with their parents. It amazed me how many kids were there. I'm not sure it's a place for kids...too much drinking, smoking and nudity. They don't call it "Sin City" for nothing! hehehehe

"Viva Las Vegas!!"

before I go...

...so I was reading the paper to get the news before we leave and read this article, from the Chronicle Herald :http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/9016623.html

The Catholic Church has raised some of the money to pay abuse victims....is this fair? You mean to tell be the parishes need to pay for this? Who did the wrongs? Definitely not the parishioners! Rome is loaded with gold and other valuable things...sell some of that! I can't believe it.....I refuse to give money to this and I hope others do too. This needs to come from the top down and furthermore, it should come from the men who knew about this all along and chose to sweep it under the rug! If I were the victims I would be upset...they do not want to penalize their peers...they want to penalize the church....absurd....absolutely absurd!

Bum...

...so the littlest one has a bum rash. It's weird that when they cut teeth, they get a bum rash. There is no logical or medical reason this happens. My Doc told me many people have researched this and no one has ever found a concrete reason this happens....kinda weird. Anyways, out of the hundreds and thousands of Bum Creams out on the market today, the only thing that works on my little one is Corn Starch. Hard to believe that instead of spending oodles of money on various creams, all i'd have to do it go on the baking cupboard and get a teaspoon or two of Corn Starch. It dries it right out and is usually gone by the next diaper change. Works like magic so don't knock it till you try it. SOunds weird, but gotta trust Grandmere when she says the old remedies work. They usually do.

There's no Diaper Rash or Bum Cream songs to end this post....guess that's a topic most people don't sing about. Maybe we should write one...let's see....

"A little baby cries
and mommy runs to help
Those teeth, you can't deny
confirmed with a rash below the belt

Slap some cream on to ease the pain
and the baby yells some more
those creams are all so lame
so I drive him to the store

I walk to the special aile
and he smiles from ear to ear
he spots it from half a mile
corn starch, i'm gonna smear.

It's like magic, it's unreal
and my boy is just so happy
the bum rash disapeared
and now it's time for a nappy." - Lise Newell, Bum Rash Song

Lobster Funny...

...so someone passed me this joke yesterday...enjoy cause I know I did!

no wonder!....

...so i've been noticing the abundance of police officers around lately. I met them in Arcadia nearly everyday, I saw them hidden in areas to catch speeders over a dozen times and I heard about a few road blocks. I have been watching my speed due to the whole speeding ticket thing a few months ago but I was getting a little concerned with all the police presence. Today, I got some answers. Apparently it was Road Safety Week last week and in today's Vanguard and Chronicle Herald there is some summaries of the police work that was done.

Here's the article from the Vanguard online:
82 charges and 50 warnings issued during Canada Road Safety Week

From May 18 to May 24, members of Western Traffic Services issued 82 charges and 50 warnings throughout the Tri-County area as part of Canada Road Safety Week.

The charges include 21 seat belt tickets and 25 summary offence tickets for aggressive driving. One young driver was traveling at 160 km/h and as a result will be losing his licence. A male will be appearing in court in Yarmouth as a result of an impaired driving charge. Five motorists were charged with driving while disqualified after their driving privileges were revoked from earlier drinking and driving convictions.

Two drivers were charged for driving with no insurance, three for using a hand-held cell phone while driving and four adults were charged under the Smoke Free Places Act when they were observed smoking tobacco in a vehicle with individuals under the age of nineteen years present. Twenty other charges were laid for various offences.

The majority of warnings issued were for violations under the new "Move over Legislation" after motorists failed to slow down to 60 km/h when passing a parked emergency vehicle on the 100 series Highway with it's lights flashing.

Western Traffic Services reminds the motoring public that safe driving is everyone's responsibility. As the summer season approaches motorists must ensure that every passenger in the vehicle is buckled up. Safe driving also includes driving while sober and not being distracted.

Oopsies...

...so my oldest little one wanted to help me get him dressed this morning. I pulled up his big boy underwear and then he got mad at me and wanted to start over and do it without my help. He pulled them up and then he was messing with the back with a weird look on his face. I asked him what he was doing and to that he answered: "Mommy, i'm just trying to get my shit together".

Oopsies!

Royalty...

...so Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are coming to Halifax at the end of June. I'm still not sure what her job duties are and I'm not sure why we need to pay for her to come and visit us but apparently many are excited. I'm not really that excited...only certain people will get to meet her cause they basically need "Meet the Queen" training before they get anywhere near her. There's loads of things you're not supposed to do and if you did break one of the so-called rules it could offend her and then she'll never come back. Well she takes forever in between visits so does it really matter that I spoke before she did? Or that I bowed when I was supposed to curtsy? Or that I squeezed her hand and didn't gently hold it? I think the last time she visited was in 1994. What's cool is that she's sported the same hairdo for decades and she has her own "waving" technique that now even Miss America uses. Maybe that's how she makes money...she patented the "wave".

Pets...

...so did you know there was a Pet Crematorium in East Kempt? Don't worry...I didn't either. It opened up a few years ago and they have all sorts of keepsakes for the pet owner to remember their beloved pets. It's a cute idea, but there was one part that was a little bothersome.....they have a viewing area in case the pet owners would like to watch the process. Ok...little bit creepy if you asked me. Seems to me someone who was all broken up about losing a pet wouldn't want to watch them go in a fire pit. Maybe i'm wrong...and apparently I am cause if everyone thought like me there would be no viewing area. Anyways, they're the only ones in NS that provide this service. Check out the article and the pics of the keepsakes: http://www.thevanguard.ca/Business/2010-05-19/article-1122879/New-business-offers-pet-cremation/1

Criminals...

...so the Auditor General has referred 5 MLA's to the RCMP for investigation regarding their Constituency Expense Claims. 4 are former MLA's and one is still in the house. No names are being mentioned but I have a sneaking suspicion I could guess on a few...I'm sure we'll know for sure who real soon. I'm a little relieved that something is being done here. I'm also relieved that it's more than just one. Now no one can say that one person is taking the fall and being used as an example. Many were wrong in their claims and it was evident that many did it on purpose and only fessed up after being busted. We would go do jail for stealing from anyone...glad these people can't hide behind the Government and be above the law. Last time I checked, we are all peers so what's good for one is good for the others. I'm unsure what the penalty will be if any are found guilty and I can only hope that we, the taxpayers, won't have to pay for their legal fees.

Fitting...

...so in case you were wondering how to properly fit a bra...here's it is:

Fitting a Bra
Wearing a bra that fits is much better for your breast health. Unfortunately, more than 70% of women are wearing the wrong size of bra. Don't be one of them!

Follow these four easy steps to ensure you are shopping for your bra size:

Measurement number 1: Measure under your bust line.

Put on your best-fitting, unpadded, under wire bra. Measure underneath the bust line and make sure to measure tightly. Be sure the tape measure is straight across your back.

The general rule of thumb for all measuring is: less than ½”, round DOWN, more than a ½”, round UP. So if your measurement is 32 ¼”, call it 32. Write this number down. This is measurement number 1.

Band Size: Calculate your band size.

If measurement 1 is UNDER 33 inches, add 5 inches. If this number is odd, round up to the next EVEN number. If measurement 1 is OVER 33 inches, add 3 inches. If this number is odd, round up to the next EVEN number. Write this EVEN number down. This is your band size.

Measurement number 2: Measure over the bust line

Measure over the biggest point of your bust line. This is a looser measurement. Make sure the tape measure is straight. Write this number down. This is measurement number 2.

Cup Size: Calculate your cup size.

First subtract measurement number 1 from measurement number 2. Then consult the following chart to find your cup size.

Shoes...

...so I went on road trip with my Farty Cousin, aka Bridezilla...and the Bridesbitches :P We had an interesting day...Did you know that it's near impossible to find Dyable Shoes nowadays? If you don't know what that is, it's exactly what it sounds like...shoes that you can dye. We searched every shoe store known to man and only found a handful of ugly dyable shoes. My Farty Cousin was getting a little discouraged, but not to worry...we'll find some online.

On the way home we stopped for Ice Cream. Who knew ice cream could be so darn good? Did you know that Farmer's has come out with new Flavours this year? Yuppers...already tried two of them: Kejimkujik Campfire S'mores and Homespun Sticky Bun. the first one has pieces of smores all inside a chocolate ice cream and the second has the middle gooey stuff of a sticky bun all mixed throughout a vanilla ice cream with little chunks of sticky bun here and there....TO DIE FOR! Anyways, while eating my cone of yummy-ness, we chatted about the good ol' days. I learnt a new use for Catalina Dressing from my Chatty Friend...who knew she could be so creative? :P

All in all the day was a success. I even found some new bras while in the city. I got fitted and everything and let's just say I now know what Dolly Parton has to go through...hehehe...and I'm still laughing about it. My Farty Cousin and I ended the road trip singing some old 80's Power Ballads and laughing all the ridiculous songs we knew all the words too.

Yehaaawww...

...so I'm officially going on vacation! Hubby and I have booked an adult only vacation to Sin City! Yuppers....LAS VEGAS, here we come! I have my tassels all picked out and my Elvis Outfit on retainer. :)

Did you know:

Las Vegas is the only place in the world where you cannot check into any hotel on a Saturday? Yup...it's the truth...ask your travel agent if you don't believe me.

Also, I was amazed to read this:

This may come as a surprise to those of you not living in Las Vegas, but there are more Catholic churches there than casinos. Not surprisingly, some worshipers at Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed.

Since they get chips from so many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to process these offerings. The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting and then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in.

This is done by the chip monks.

Amazed...

...so SARMU 33 came to an end last night. It's always sad, but so much fun. The kids were exceptional and I can hardly wait for next year! They gave me a card with little notes from each kid. I think that's the best part for me....it's nice to know that people appreciate having you around and I just wish they all knew how much I enjoy being with them. It's real cool to see a kid mature and get better each year and really all we did, as Producers, was babysit and direct a little. The talent is all theirs so the show would not be awesome without these awesome kids in it.

I love hearing young talent and here's a clip of a kid on youtube doing up some Lady Gaga....AMAZING!http://ca.tv.yahoo.com/news/article/tv.tvguide.com/tv.tvguide.com-sixth-grader-wows-crowd-with-lady-gaga-cover

Zap...

...so this morning I get a call from JTwins. She barely got "Hi" out of her mouth when all of a sudden all I can hear is a dog crying and barking. She's laughing at the same time as she's trying to calm the dog...and now i'm laughing cause I can barely hear her over all the noise. She keeps yelling "Hold On" and I can hear her scrambling around and apologizing to her dog. Finally she gets him to calm down and I ask what on earth was going on. Well aparently she was bringing the dog to the groomers and had him in the backseat. As she started to drive away the dog jumped in the front on her and was crying and barking. The dog has a collar that if he goes past a certain point the collar gives him a shock.....well JTwin forgot to take off the collar so here she was driving down the driveway and dog is going nuts. It was definitely hilarious....and I could picture JTwin turning around in the bushes and driving frantically around her lawn till her dog got off of her lap so she could stop. Poor dog...

...so I see a man driving a big oil truck with a smoke hanging out of his mouth. I'm thinking that this isn't a great idea, after all, THERE'S A HUGE FUEL TANK 2 FEET BEHIND HIS SEAT! What on earth would posses someone to do that? Why don't you go park next to a brush fire while you're at it?

Customer Service...

...so sometimes I wonder where people learn their Customer Service Skills.
Today I went to get my mail at the Pharmasave in Yarmouth. There are 3 ladies there....two of which are always nice, smiling and willing to help. The third....not so much. She always has a pout, never acknowledges you're even there, sounds annoyed when she has to get your parcel, does not gently place anything down and basically is the worst customer service person ever! She beats the grumpy one at Timmies I wrote about a few times so it must be bad.

Today, I get there and she's at the cash. She never looked at me or even acknowledged I was there. I stood there for 3 minutes...not a word from her. She then walks away and sits at another counter while one of the other ladies rushes over to ask if I need help. The nice lady gets my parcels and is very polite. I then open up one of my parcels as there were some Express Post Envelopes I was sent from my Region Office. I was sending something back to them, but forgot to bring one of those sticky tags you need to affix on the back so I asked for one. *Keep in mind the tags are free...it's the envelopes itself that cost money so the Post Office can give you as many tags are you need or want.* She couldn't find any so she asked the grump who made a mean face and asked why I didn't have any sent to me with my envelopes. Well...who cares why...give me a damn FREE tag thing and nevermind.....but nooooo...so I repond that we get them pre-printed at the office, but I forgot to bring one. She then makes the biggest sigh ever and reaches over on a shelf to get me one. She then tosses the sheets on top of my parcel as she walks by and I have to scramble to catch them before they go flying on the floor. She then goes to sit down and just gives me an annoyed face...then she opens up the newspaper and starts reading. OK LADY...you could be a little nicer....and if you want to read the paper, take a break out back and get out from behind the counter...otherwise, smile, shut up and do as we ask like it's your favorite thing to do in the day!! I don't know who peed in her corn flakes this morning...or every morning for that matter...but it's about time she gets some attitude courses. I realize sometimes going to work isn't fun but making my day crappy isn't what I signed up for either...so suck it up.

Next time i'll make a comment like "i'm so sorry i'm bothering you...is there someone else I can speak to?" or something along those lines so she gets the hint and maybe she'll retire.

Geesh...some people's kids!

Hump Day Humor...

...so JGuitar sent me a joke this am and I thought I'd share. hehehe...enjoy!

A BURGLAR broke into a house one night.

He shined his flashlight around,
looking for valuables when
a voice in the dark said,

'Jesus knows you're here.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin,
clicked his flashlight off, and froze..

When he heard nothing more ,
after a bit, he shook his head and continued.

Just as he pulled the stereo out
so he could disconnect the wires,
clear as a bell he heard

'Jesus is watching you.'

Freaked out, he shined his light
around frantically, looking for the
source of the voice.

Finally, in the corner of the room, his
flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot...
'Yep', the parrot confessed, then squawked,
'I'm just trying to warn you that he is watching you.'

The burglar relaxed.
'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'
'Moses,' replied the bird.

'Moses?' the burglar laughed.
'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

'The kind of people that
would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

Boooo....

...so I lost the battle. I can't get out of losing my license, but I did get it moved to after fishing is done. I'll be driving around with my cruise control from now on :)

More car stuff...

...so I'm off to the Courthouse today. I got caught for speeding some time ago and apparently with every speeding ticket you lose your licence for 1 week. It's normally as of your courtdate, but you can change the week. The Cop told me that it would be anytime within a year....not the case at all. The lady that I spoke to when I paid it informed me it had to be within 6 weeks. This is a problem as I work full-time and hubby is starting to fish everyday. I'm supposed to lose my licence starting tomorrow at noon. This just isn't going to work as now I have to deal with fixing my car due to the whole backing up in MIL's car incident. I'm gonna go today and talk to them again. People who get caught for drinking and driving get exceptions on their suspensions for work...why can't I? Also, why can't I lose it on the weekends only? Why do I have to lose it anyways? Why can't I lose it in June or July when Hubby is around to drive me around? Why can't I just go talk to the judge? I will get answers today...wish me luck!

"He got a fast car..." - Tracy Chapman

Backing up...

...so Friday my mother in law (MIL) came over to babysit for the morning. I was going through my regular routine, got in the car, slapped it in reverse, backed up and cut the wheel to turn and get facing down the driveway.....BANG! I forgot my MIL's car was parked there and I now just backed up into it. Now, I wasn't going fast so really it shouldn't do a lot of damage....except....she drives a Cadillac! Nice....not a Prius or a Focus...a Cadillac. The cars nowadays are made nearly in one piece so you ruin one and basically need to the fix the whole damn car. A scrape and a crack lead to a whole paint job....needless to say the Insurance Lady was called.

I call the Insurance Lady and I explain what happened. She asked me "did you not see the vehicle or were you not paying attention?" Well I didn't want her to know I was a dummy so I told her I simply didn't see cause I drive an SUV and she wasn't parked in her normal spot so her car must have been in my blind spot - hence the accident. She asked if I knew the person I hit. I explained it was my MIL. ....SILENCE......so then I repeat, "It was my MIL"....she then giggles and says "well aren't you lucky!" hehehehe I started to laugh! My MIL wasn't upset about it at all, but I guess out of all the people you could hit, your MIL is probably not the best. Luckily for me she was real good about it. She could have really been mad at me considering the only reason she was over was to watch my two kids and do me a favor. I have now paid her back with a dented, cracked, scraped front of her car. You should also know that she just got that car fixed cause she hit a deer before Xmas.

Today I went to the Collision Center to take pics of my vehicle and the guy was chuckling...."so you're the one who backed up into your MIL's car?" hehehe...the shame....I answered "yes, yes I am."

Operation Panty Thief...

...so there's a panty thief in Pubnico. Actually, this has happened before, but there seemed to be a little lull and now he's back in full swing. It's rather disturbing to think that someone is going into houses, into the bedroom, finding the underwear drawer and picking through what he/she wants and leaving with them. He/she also is taking bras and "toys". It's very odd and now everyone is on the hunt to find the thief..who could it be? Here's what we think:

-The thief is likely someone we know real well as he wouldn't look out of place in the neighbourhood or in near someones house when they weren't home.
-The thief is likely male as the undies and bras were of all sizes, brands and colors. I have a funny feeling a woman would be a little more picky.
-The thief seems to have targeted women who tend to walk on the sidewalk as it would be easy to determine when they were not at home.
-The thief has been sneaky and getting into homes in the daytime and right out in the open so he would have to be semi slender and a little in shape. Fat, old or a couch potato wouldn't be fast enough.
-He is likely middle aged as the women he's targetted are from 30 to somewhere in their 50's. I can't see a teenager being interested in granny panties....though I could be wrong!
-The thief has some time on his hands as the thefts have occurred in Pubnico, East Pubnico and Argyle...that's a bit of travelling.
-The thief likely isn't someone who works 9-5, Monday to Friday in an office...like a teacher or an office worker. Some thefts have occurred during the day so it would be hard to sneak away from work to nab some panties. A fisherman, however, would have lots of time....or even an oil man, courier, meter reader, newspaper carrier, etc.. as these people wouldn't look out of place
-The thief is a PERVERT so maybe a man you know who is interested in pornography, discusses sex a lot, has odd fetishes, etc. I realize some of you are thinking that's all males, but seriously, someone at this level would likely be dropping hints, just we haven't picked up on them yet.
-The thief likely has a hang out spot...somewhere he goes alone like a camp or a shed or a garage that he would keep these items in private. He would also need to spend time with the items so this male would be out to his hang out spot a fair bit.
-The thief likely drives around a bit to be able to know who is where and when.

So that's all the detective work for now. Let's all be proactive and start opening our eyes and paying attention to our surroundings. Also, lock your doors. One lady kept one door unlocked and the thief knew that little detail and got in...don't kid yourselves...he's around and he's watching....lock everything, including your car and for heaven's sake: Take your keys out of the ignition! Your housekey is likely on the key ring! Here's more tips, put hubby's deer cam somewhere....organize your drawse drawer so you'd notice if something were missing....vaccum the rug so you'll see footprints in the bedroom or down the hall...let's find him!

And the NDP Strikes again...

...so no raised taxes, eh? What happened to that promise? Oh right...you forgot...apparently HST will be back up to 15% in July. Lovely. http://www.thevanguard.ca/News/2010-04-06/article-990772/HST-increasing-on-July-1/1

Toilet...

...so I went to Hdot for a few days last week. That means I had to use Public Washrooms a lot...no fun. Anyways, I had to use the Handicapped stalls a few times and really, i'm not sure why I do! Why do they feel the need to put the toilet right in line with the crack of the stall door? You sit on the toilet and can basically watch people wash their hands...meaning they can now watch you pee. It's kinda odd....and slightly creepy.....who needs a peep hole when you have this set up?

Anyways...no more handicapped stall....i'll use the more private, smaller stall and avoid showing everyone my hoo-hoo.

Healthy?...

...so I read today that Green Tea might be linked to liver disease. http://thechronicleherald.ca/NovaScotia/1173727.html

The article states that too much green tea extract has been proven to cause major liver complications. This confirms something I've said for years....too much of anything is bad! My Father, the Oceanographer, told me just this weekend that be it actual medication or just supplements from the health food store, it's not what you take that kills you, it's the dosage. You can die from drinking too much water so this article is no surprise to me. I know lots of people who claim that taking herbs and other natural supplements is far better than medication...here's another reason why they would be wrong. I don't think taking supplements is a bad thing...but neither is taking a Tylenol from time to time either. My point has always been that just cause it's "natural" or comes from the health food store, doesn't mean it's healthy. Again...it's the dose you take that makes all the difference in the world.

So there...I'll stick to my coffee, thank you very much!

Recalculation...

...so apparently Mr. Hurlburt gets $54,000/yr pension instead of the $41,000 that was originally reported. Here's the article: http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/1172580.html

I don't get it...they can steal money, do what they want, not have ANY repercussions and walk away set for life. Makes absolutely no sense to me! Actually, it makes me mad! The rest of the world struggles to make a living during recession times and then we have to read about our tax money going to pay for criminal activity. If I go in the mall, take a TV and a Generator, use it for my personal stuff, I don't get a big fat pension to reward me for my actions! I'm sorry, but this hardly seems fair. He quit...he should be forced to forfit some pension moneys and work like the rest of us do for the rest of his life. This is just rewarding bad behavior. He can call it "an error in judgement" all he wants...I don't buy it. He's a smart man so don't give me excuses for being temporarily ethically stupid. \

I'm annoyed.

Now Serving?...

...so I was in Pubnico today and as I drove by the Creamy Treat, couldn't help but notice the sign. Did anyone else drive by at about 10AM? Well if you did there's no way you could have missed the new ice cream flavor advertised for all to see..."Penis and Tatas" :) Gotta love teenagers who think it's funny to re-vamp signs during the night....hehehe...actually I found it super funny and nearly drove off the road in laughter.

I wonder if you can order "Penis and Tatas" in large sizes?
